Coast Funds has released their annual report, highlighting $4.5 million in investments in 2022.
Founded in 2007, the fund supports Indigenous-led stewardship and economic development projects in the Great Bear Rainforest and Haida Gwaii.
Last year saw them distribute $2.5 million for 12 stewardship and conservation projects, and $2 million into other initiatives.
That funding helped to create new Guardian Watchman programs, support clean-energy transition, bring new training opportunities, and more.
2022 also saw the Fund partner with the Community Energy Diesel Reduction Program, which approved $6.4 million for projects in the region in their first funding round.
They also supported the work of 15 First Nations on an action plan to establish a network of Marine Protected Areas for the Northern Shelf Bioregion.
Work also continued to establish a new project finance for permanence initiative, which will support long-term Indigenous investments.
Since its creation, the fund has invested more than $107 million, while attracting nearly $300 million in additional investments, helping to complete 93 projects along the way.
