Two First Nations communities along the North Coast are receiving fresh provincial funding to support local food security and sustainability.
A total of $490,000 will go to the Old Massett Village Council to help build a compost facility which will produce Class A compost for community use.
Nearly $150,000 will help to establish a new food and yard waste collection service for the Gitxaala Nation.
North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice says that the projects will help to combat the high costs of waste removal and importing foods for the communities.
Combined the projects, funded through the CleanBC Organics Infrastructure and Collection Program, will process over 58 wet tonnes of organic waste each year.
