A new program under StrongerBC aims to provide more skills training for in demand jobs.
The Future Ready Action plan takes a five pillar approach to closing the skills gap in a changing economy.
Those pillars will focus on making postsecondary more affordable and accessible, helping people “Re-skill” to suit in-demand jobs, breaking barriers to help people find a suitable job, addressing Indigenous workforce priorities, and ensuring new BC residents can find a career they’re trained for.
Actions under those pillars include increasing early childhood education spaces by 50%, launching a one-stop digital service for finding high opportunity occupations titled Find Your Path, and creating 3,000 more tech positions.
Starting in September, the $480 million plan will distribute grants up to $3,500 for people to choose between 400 eligible training opportunities.
The province estimates that employers can expect approximately 8,500 newly trained people in the field over the next three years.
