Ground has been broken on the International Longshore and Warehouse Union’s new headquarters in Prince Rupert.
The local ILWU 505 gathered with members of DP World, the BC Maritime Employers Association and the Prince Rupert Port Authority to celebrate the start of construction.
With a $2.6 million contribution from those partners, the building will replace the current 100 year old building.
Approximately 10,000 square feet and three stories, the upgrade represents one of the largest new commercial developments in downtown Prince Rupert.
The hall will be utilized by union members for in-house training, workforce planning, and will support the longevity of the union and is expected to be operational in 2025.
