A University of Northern BC researcher has been selected as a UNESCO Co-Chair for the Living Heritage and Sustainable Livelihoods project.
Doctor Agnieszka Pawlowska-Mainville is an Associate Professor of Global and International Studies at UNBC.
In her new role with UNESCO, she will work to promote the sharing of cultural knowledge between localities, while safeguarding heritage and languages.
Pawlowska-Mainville will lead the academic and international aspects of the Living Heritage project.
She will be joined by fellow Co-Chair Kristin Catherwood from Heritage Saskatchewan, who will focus on partner engagement and work in the Prairies.
Part of the project aims to create a Living Heritage Research Centre to store key data and multilingual resources for researchers and communities.
UNBC students will also be able to get involved with the project through cultural heritage courses and internship opportunities.
