A revised Final Settlement Agreement has been announced by the Assembly of First Nations and the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society.
Pending approval, the revision would see an additional $3 billion in compensation for first nations children and families who have faced discrimination from child and family services.
That agreement will be presented to the Special Chiefs Assembly for approval before being passed on to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal and the Federal Court.
If approved, a total compensation value will reach $23 billion for the Assembly of First Nations and Caring Society towards 300,000 first nations children and families.
I wonder what the reasoning is for the government not giving the same amount as non-indigenous families? All we have ever wanted was to be treated equally. They wouldn’t have to make reparations all these years if they were respectful of us from day one. SMDH.
