After a series of recent issues, Williams Lake City Council has voted to remove a homeless encampment located along Williams Creek.
Councillor Scott Nelson brought the issue before Council, after discovering the disastrous state of the camp during a visit to Scout Island.
He says he would later return to the litter-filled camp to verify a public report of a campfire burning at the site.
City CAO Gary Muraca says the individual responsible for the blaze has received multiple warnings against lighting fires in the camp.
While other councillors took issue with Nelson taking the investigation into his own hands, they ultimately agreed the camp posed a threat to safety and must go.
City staff will now get to work planning and executing the removal of the encampment.
