A Chilcotin-based cattle ranch whose operations harmed numerous fish habitats has drawn the ire of the Tsilhqot’in National Government.
Last month, Altherr & Schellenberg Cattle Co pleaded guilty to multiple violations of the Fisheries Act, Forest and Range Practices Act, and Water Sustainability Act.
Those charges come after the company infilled a number of sensitive channels and fishing sites near the Kleena Kleene and Little Chilcotin Rivers.
As a result, the company was fined $460,000 and ordered to put $500,000 in a trust to cover remediation costs.
An additional bond of $750,000 will also be held in trust to ensure all activities under the remediation order are completed.
But the TNG is urging government to revoke all licenses and permits granted to the company’s owner Felix Schellenberg, in light of the offenses.
Schellenberg also owns Pasture to Plate and the Rafter 25 Ranch, two other cattle ranches located in BC.
