BC has introduced a new energy action framework which aims to ensure oil and gas sector projects fit within the province’s climate commitments.
Under the new framework, the province will establish a regulatory emissions cap for all oil and gas projects to ensure they meet their emissions reduction targets.
It will also require all proposed LNG facilities to pass an emissions test with a credible plan to be net-zero by 2030.
A new clean energy and major projects office will be created under the framework to oversee investments in clean energy and help create sustainable jobs.
It will also see a BC Hydro task force established to help accelerate the electrification of BC’s economy, homes, and businesses.
