Ottawa is providing an additional $557 million to help communities recover costs related to 2021’s devastating floods.
Those floods, as well as a slew of landslides, were prompted by an atmospheric river which pelted most of BC that November.
Roughly 18,000 people were evacuated as a result, with significant damage being dealt to highways, infrastructure, and farmlands.
With many communities still struggling to recover from the costs incurred by the storm, the Federal Government is stepping up.
Communities can access the new funding by applying to the Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements program.
Funding can be used to restore public works and infrastructure to pre-disaster conditions, repair personal property, and restore agriculture, among other uses.
With the new funding, Ottawa has now invested over $1 billion in recovery efforts related to the floods.
