The Province has announced fresh funding to both protect old growth forests and support innovation in the forestry industry.
As part of an eight point plan to protect old growth forests, $25 million will be going towards the development of new Forest Landscape Planning tables.
Enabled by changes to the 2021 Forest and Range Practices Act, FLPs were designed to be a more inclusive and comprehensive approach to forest stewardship.
These eight new tables will include approximately 50 First Nations in the development of plans to prevent harvesting in old growth forests.
At the same time, the province announced that they will be doubling the brand new BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund to $180 million and expanding eligibility.
Introduced last month, the fund works to assist forestry workers in expanding their operations or upgrading their facilities.
That announcement was made in the wake of several mill closures and curtailments including the Skeena Sawmills temporary closure and West Fraser Timbers curtailments at their Cariboo pulp and paper mill.
