A new payment model for family physicians in BC may mean an upgrade in patient care.
The Province announced the new Longitudinal Family Physician Payment model which takes effect today (Wed).
Through the model, physicians will now be compensated for the extra time they spend with patients, especially those with complex needs like mental health conditions or seniors.
Outlines of the model were developed with feedback from family physicians and through collaboration between the Ministry of Health, Doctors of BC and BC Family Doctors.
These outlines work to support BC’s primary care strategy and meet the needs of physicians to ensure patients have access to the care they need.
The model also works to simplify the administrative burden placed on physicians so that they can focus on spending time with patients and coordinating their care.
