Coast Funds has released a new report highlighting 15 years of Indigenous conservation in the Northwest.
Founded in 2007, Coast Funds is an Indigenous-led conservation finance organization serving 27 First Nations in the Great Bear Rainforest and Haida Gwaii.
Since their founding, they have delivered nearly $110 million towards 439 stewardship and economic development projects.
Through their investments, First Nations in the region have created over 1,200 new jobs, investing over $63 million in local salaries.
It has also allowed them to conduct hundreds of research and habitat restoration projects, and create 18 regional monitoring and Guardian Watchmen programs.
Many of their funded projects have a focus on accessing traditional foods, protecting cultural assets, and transfering Elder knowledge.
