Business owners in Terrace are being warned of a convincing scam which duped a pair of local businesses last week.
In both cases, someone impersonating a head office employee called in to inform employees of an urgent delivery being made that day.
They claimed that the delivery was related to the store’s business and sanitation license, and that they would be shut down if payment wasn’t made.
A separate scammer claiming to be from the delivery company would then call the stores with payment details.
Victims were told that the payment must be made online by depositing cash into a specific Crypto Wallet, via a Bitcoin ATM.
In each case, the scammers were able to name business owners and multiple employees, and convince the victims they were a legitimate company.
