CityWest and the Lax Kw’alaams Band have launched SmartTown, a new community-wide Wi-Fi service now available in Lax Kw’alaams.
The service officially began this week and is being offered at no cost during a trial phase to all CityWest customers in the community.
SmartTown creates one secure Wi-Fi zone across Lax Kw’alaams, allowing people to stay connected as they move throughout the village. Once devices are onboarded, they automatically connect to SmartTown Wi-Fi wherever coverage is available.
CityWest says the service builds on existing local infrastructure and is meant to provide more value from technology already installed in the community.
Most customers received onboarding emails last week with instructions on how to connect. CityWest is continuing to send setup emails to customers who have not yet received them.
The trial phase gives residents early access to the service while CityWest gathers feedback to help shape the final version of SmartTown. A full launch is planned for later in 2026.
The project is part of a partnership between CityWest and the Lax Kw’alaams Band. Under the agreement, a portion of profits from CityWest services is reinvested into local infrastructure improvements and community projects in Lax Kw’alaams.
