Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for the Cariboo region, including Quesnel and Williams Lake, as well as parts of Highway 97, warning of strong southwesterly wind gusts overnight tonight into Wednesday morning.
According to Environment Canada, a vigorous cold front moving across the BC Interior will bring increasing winds to several regions, including the Chilcotin, 100 Mile area, and exposed mountain routes. Gusty conditions are expected to develop overnight, creating the potential for downed trees, localized power outages, and difficult travel.
Highway 97 between Clinton and 100 Mile House via Begbie Summit is among the routes expected to be affected. Drivers are advised to be alert for sudden crosswinds, fallen debris, and rapidly changing road conditions, particularly in higher elevations and open areas.
Residents across the Cariboo are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and ensure electronic devices are charged in case of power interruptions. Those planning to travel should check current road conditions through DriveBC before heading out.
Environment Canada says winds will gradually ease Wednesday morning as the cold front moves eastward. The public is reminded to continue monitoring forecasts and weather alerts for updates, as conditions can change quickly.
