Williams Lake First Nation has been honored with the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of BC’s 2025 Best Practices award for large communities. The award ceremony took place in Vancouver on December 4, where Chief Financial Officer Lori Billyboy and the WLFN finance team received recognition for their outstanding achievements in financial management and governance.
The award acknowledges WLFN’s decade-long commitment to strong financial administration, strategic planning, and government modernization. The Nation has strengthened governance systems, developed clear land-use and leasing frameworks, and enhanced environmental management. WLFN has also built capacity across natural resources, law enforcement, and land stewardship, reflecting a holistic approach to community sustainability.
AFOA BC praised the Nation’s transparent, community-led decision-making and disciplined long-term planning, noting that WLFN stands out as a resilient and forward-thinking First Nation government. The recognition reflects a collective effort of Chief and Council, staff, Elders, and community members, demonstrating how governance, fiscal discipline, and cultural grounding can drive long-term prosperity.
The AFOA BC Best Practices awards are presented annually to communities that demonstrate sustained excellence in financial administration and accountability. WLFN’s achievement sets a benchmark for other First Nations in governance, planning, and community-led growth.
