Prince Rupert officials say the community is moving closer to the end of the ongoing boil water notice, first issued in November after construction impacts from the BIG Project affected the system. According to the City, the underlying issue has now been corrected and crews have completed flushing the affected water lines.
Testing is underway to confirm water quality, and results so far have come back clear. Based on the current timeline, the City anticipates the advisory could be lifted within the next two weeks, provided no further issues arise. Northern Health continues to work with the City to verify when the system meets all requirements for safe consumption.
In the meantime, operators of public facilities must continue posting boil-water signs at sinks and drinking fountains, or shut off public taps entirely. Businesses and agencies are also asked to verbally notify customers and clients as needed. Residents are encouraged to help share the information with neighbours to ensure everyone remains aware of the advisory.
When the City receives final confirmation that the water is safe, an update will be released through all municipal communication channels, including the City app and the Connect Rocket emergency alert system. Those who have not yet subscribed to these services are encouraged to sign up to receive timely updates.
