Williams Lake RCMP are crediting new C-STEP funding for helping officers quickly solve a recent theft case and enhance community safety efforts. In late November, the detachment received approval through the Community Safety and Targeted Enforcement Program, aimed at boosting proactive policing, visibility, and violent crime prevention across the city.
The enhanced patrols paid off almost immediately. On November 27, officers responded to a report of a vehicle break-in where thieves had smashed a window and stolen several items, including a backpack containing computer equipment. With additional resources available through C-STEP, officers on targeted patrol were able to identify, locate, and arrest the suspects shortly afterward. All stolen property was successfully recovered and has since been returned to its owner. The suspects were released pending a future court appearance.
Staff Sergeant Brad McKinnon says residents can expect increased police visibility throughout the holiday season and into 2026 as enhanced patrols continue. RCMP say the early success demonstrates the value of targeted enforcement and community-focused crime prevention. The investigation into the theft remains active.
