The Government of British Columbia has released the final report from an independent review of CleanBC, the province’s climate action plan. The review was conducted by independent climate-policy experts Merran Smith and Dan Woynillowicz, with input from Indigenous partners, local governments, industry, non-profits, and the Climate Solutions Council.
Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions Adrian Dix says the review will help ensure B.C.’s climate actions continue to put people first while supporting the economy and communities. “B.C. continues to be a leader on climate action. Today’s report will help us build on that plan,” Dix said.
The review was one of the commitments outlined in the 2024 Co-operation and Responsible Government Accord between the BC government and the BC Green caucus. MLA Jeremy Valeriote says the report shows a clear need to strengthen climate action in the province and believes fully implementing the recommendations could solidify B.C.’s leadership role in climate solutions.
The provincial government will now consider the report’s recommendations as it plans next steps to reduce emissions, support economic growth, and ensure affordability for residents.
The final report is publicly available online and provides detailed recommendations for advancing B.C.’s climate strategy.
