The District of Kitimat is inviting residents to provide feedback on a proposed cannabis retail store at 354 City Centre, Unit B. Under Section 33(1) of the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act, the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch cannot issue a retail licence without a positive recommendation from the local government.
Kitimat Council passed a motion in September to accept the application for consideration, and staff are now conducting a public engagement process in accordance with provincial legislation and Council Policy C-33. Input received from the community will be summarized in a report for Council ahead of a decision on the licence application.
Details of the application are available online at kitimat.ca/pn, on GetInvolvedKitimat, or in person at the District of Kitimat Municipal Office at 270 City Centre, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding statutory holidays.
Comments must be submitted before 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025, for consideration by Council. Feedback can be sent by email to planning@kitimat.ca, faxed to 250-632-4995, or mailed to the Planning Department at 270 City Centre, Kitimat, BC V8C 2H7. Residents are welcome to attend the Council meeting in person or virtually via WebEx. Contact the District of Kitimat at 250-632-8900 or administration@kitimat.ca for login information.
This consultation provides a valuable opportunity for residents to have their voices heard before Council makes a decision on the proposed cannabis retail store.
