The District of Kitimat and Kitimat Chamber of Commerce have launched a new national campaign, “Kitimat, BC: It’s Not For Everyone,” designed to attract Canadians to live, work, and invest in this northern British Columbia community.
The campaign takes a refreshingly honest approach, highlighting Kitimat’s rugged landscapes, resilient community, and opportunities for growth, while acknowledging that life in the north isn’t for everyone. At its core is a short film featuring local characters, quirks, and humor that celebrate the town’s unique personality. Accompanying the film are imaginative Kitimat-inspired products such as DRIZZLY FLAKES cereal and SALMONADE sparkling beverage, giving the campaign a playful, memorable edge.
Developed with the agency Munro/Thompson and funded by the provincial REDIP program and the Northern Healthy Communities Fund, the initiative is part of a broader effort to attract new residents, skilled workers, and investment to the region. Leaders say the campaign targets people who value hard work, natural beauty, and a vibrant, involved community.
Rather than trying to appeal to everyone, Kitimat is embracing its distinct character and inviting those who share its values to consider making the community their home. For the right people, the message is clear: welcome to Kitimat.
