Residents in the inland sections of the Central Coast should prepare for heavy rainfall as a frontal system moves onshore tonight and continues into Friday. Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning, predicting total rainfall amounts of up to fifty millimeters before the rain gradually eases to showers Friday evening.
Authorities warn that water is likely to pool on roads and in low-lying areas, creating hazardous driving conditions. There is also a heightened risk of washouts near rivers, creeks, and culverts, making travel in these areas particularly dangerous during the storm. Residents are advised to exercise caution, avoid flooded areas, and keep emergency supplies ready in case conditions worsen.
Environment Canada encourages everyone to continue monitoring alerts and forecasts as the weather system progresses. Severe weather can also be reported directly by emailing BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or sharing updates on X with the hashtag BCStorm.
This rainfall event highlights the importance of being prepared for rapidly changing conditions. Staying informed, exercising caution on roadways, and avoiding low-lying areas will help keep residents safe as heavy rain moves through the Central Coast inland sections over the next 24 hours.
