Prime Minister Mark Carney will be in Northwestern BC today, Thursday November 13th, where he’s set to make an announcement in Terrace about what his office is calling ‘nation-building projects that will connect and transform Canada’s economy’.
Official details are light at this time as to the specifics of the announcement, but information leaked to the Globe and Mail earlier this week suggests the Prime Minister could announce the North Coast Transmission Line, a Graphite mine expansion in Quebec, and potentially the Ksi Lisims LNG project as the latest additions to the Major Projects Office’s list of Projects of National Significance.
For its part, the BC Government has been lobbying the Federal Government to include the North Coast Transmission Line on that list, noting its potential to power the next generation of industrial projects in the region, with an emphasis on critical mineral mining projects. The Ksi Lisims LNG Project received its environmental assessment certificate from the Province in mid-September this year, essentially greenlighting its development
