LNG Canada says flaring linked to the start-up of its second production train will continue longer than expected.
The company now expects flaring to continue until November 20th, instead of the originally planned November 10th.
LNG Canada says the extension is needed to safely finish testing and tuning equipment as part of the commissioning process.
Flaring will happen off and on, with flames that could reach between 20 and 90 metres high, and residents may notice some visible emissions or noise.
Flaring is a regulated safety measure used to burn off natural gas during certain phases of operation. The company says it’s an important part of bringing the facility online and won’t be routine once operations are fully underway.
