The Terrace RCMP are warning local businesses to be cautious after several counterfeit bills were found in the community.
On October 29th, police received reports from two local businesses involving fake money. One business accepted the counterfeit bills before realizing they were fraudulent, while another refused a similar transaction. Officers seized the counterfeit cash and confirmed that each bill had the same serial number and was clearly marked with the words “Prop Money.”
Police have identified and arrested a man in connection with the incidents. He was released with a court date and conditions while the investigation continues. RCMP say they plan to submit the case to BC Prosecution Services for charge consideration.
Investigators are reminding local businesses and the public to stay alert, check bills carefully, and contact police immediately if they encounter suspicious currency. Counterfeit money can often be spotted by its texture, missing security features, or unusual markings.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Terrace RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers.
