The Nisga’a Lisims Government is welcoming new federal budget measures aimed at advancing Indigenous participation in Canada’s economy.
Announced this week by Prime Minister Carney, the budget enhances the Indigenous Loan Guarantee Program and expands the Canada Infrastructure Bank’s mandate and funding. The Nisga’a Nation says these steps will make it easier for First Nations to take a leading role in developing major projects on their traditional territories.
The Nation points to Ksi Lisims LNG and the Pacific Right Gas Transmission project as examples of Indigenous-led initiatives designed to create long-term opportunities for all communities in northern British Columbia.
Nisga’a Lisims Government President Eva Clayton says the changes signal a shift toward Indigenous nations driving their own economic futures—while ensuring development remains responsible and world-class.
The Nisga’a Nation says the budget reinforces its vision of inclusive growth, where First Nations are not just participants but partners in Canada’s prosperity.
