Northern Health says Emergency Department services at the Lakes District Hospital in Burns Lake will be unavailable until 8:00am Wednesday, October 29th, due to staffing challenges.
The Emergency Department in Burns Lake had closed at 7:00am Tuesday, October 28th.
The Health Authority says they’re currently in the process of filling shifts in the Emergency Department for the coming days, so the closure may be extended depending on availability of staff.
For the time being, those in Burns Lake in need of emergency care for a life threatening issue should not hesitate to call 911 as transport to the closest facility is still available.
Those will access to a family doctor have been asked to check with them first for non-urgent needs, while those without have been encouraged to avail of an online virtual care clinic or HealthLink BC. Indigenous residents also have access to the First Nations Virtual Doctor of the Day program by calling 1-855-344-3800 between 8:30am and 4:30pm daily.
In Northern BC, pharmacists are also available by appointment to provide prescriptions for 21 minor ailments, as well as contraceptives.
