The Province of British Columbia is making 187 amendments to 38 regulations across 10 ministries to reduce red tape, shorten permitting timelines, and improve government efficiency.
These changes are part of the ongoing Better Regulations for British Columbians (BR4BC) initiative, which has led to more than 2,000 regulatory updates since 2016. The 2025 amendment package focuses on streamlining approval processes for residents and businesses, helping to make operations faster and more affordable.
Key changes include removing construction permit requirements for very small private water systems, simplifying approval levels for special-use forestry permits, and eliminating outdated provisions related to soil relocation and open burning. More than 1,200 gravel pits and quarries will benefit from simplified soil movement rules, while contaminated site remediation processes have also been modernized.
Other updates expand the use of digital records and clarify regulatory language, reducing administrative burden and costs for businesses. The amendments also support more inclusive, efficient, and accessible government services across B.C.
The province says the goal is to make it easier for people and businesses to work with government while keeping environmental and safety standards strong.
