Sinclar Group Forest Products is cutting production by 40 percent at its three lumber mills — Apollo Forest Products in Fort St. James, Nechako Lumber in Vanderhoof, and Lakeland Mills in Prince George — starting Monday, October 27th.
The company says the reductions are roughly equal to closing one full mill. President Greg Stewart says the decision comes amid ongoing fibre shortages, economic pressures, and U.S. tariffs on Canadian lumber.
Stewart says the move will have major impacts on employees and communities, and is calling on all levels of government, First Nations, and industry partners to work together to address what he calls “systemic issues” in B.C.’s forest sector.
