Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Haida Gwaii as a powerful frontal system moving over the islands is set to generate very strong winds
Meteorologists with the weather office say southeast winds will pick up rapidly this evening, with sustained winds of 70 km/h gusting to 90km/h across the island, and gusts up to 110 km/h possible over exposed coastal sections.
Wind speeds are expected to diminish by tomorrow morning, but blustery conditions will persist on the islands throughout the day Wednesday before the wind picks back up again overnight into Thursday.
Environment Canada says the high winds have the potential toss loose objects around, with power outages and fallen tree branches a possibility to be wary of.
