BC Highway Patrol’s September distracted driving and seatbelt campaign resulted in 116 tickets issued in northern British Columbia. The enforcement effort, which targeted two major traffic safety concerns, aimed to reduce electronic device use while driving and encourage seatbelt use.
In northern BC, 45 tickets were issued for distracted driving violations, where drivers were caught using electronic devices behind the wheel. An additional 71 tickets were handed out for seatbelt and other occupant restraint offenses.
As the fall season approaches, the importance of driving safely becomes even more critical. With shorter daylight hours and increased rainfall, visibility becomes an issue, and pedestrians are harder to see. BC Highway Patrol is urging northern drivers to stay focused on the road and ensure all passengers are properly secured. The message is simple: reduce distractions and make safety a top priority to protect yourself, your passengers, and other road users.
