The Conservative Party of Canada has announced a comprehensive Youth Jobs Plan to address the alarming rise in youth unemployment across the country.
Conservative Shadow Minister for Employment Garnett Genuis highlighted that more than 460,000 young Canadians aged 15 to 24 are currently unemployed, with the youth employment rate at its lowest point in over 25 years, aside from the pandemic period.
The plan sets out four key strategies: boosting economic growth by repealing anti-resource laws, cutting taxes, and reducing red tape; fixing immigration policies to better match labour and housing market realities; reforming student financial aid to prioritize education in high-demand fields; and incentivizing employers to build workforce housing by allowing a 100% capital cost write-off for such developments.
Genuis called on the Liberal government to adopt these policies in the upcoming federal budget, emphasizing the importance of securing youth employment to protect their long-term career prospects.
“The government has no jobs plan for our youth. We do, and we are putting forward these policies in a constructive spirit,” Genuis said. “Young Canadians need action, not excuses. Conservatives’ ideas will deliver real results.”
