Health officials warn of slowed heart rate and heavy sedation linked to “down” or “heroin.”
Northern Health and the First Nations Health Authority are warning people in Prince George after a recent spike in overdoses connected to a toxic street drug. The substance, being sold as “down” or “heroin,” is causing slowed heart rates and prolonged sedation, often requiring higher doses of naloxone to reverse.
People who use substances are urged to take precautions:
Don’t use alone. Have someone nearby or call the National Overdose Response Service (1-888-688-6677).
If you must use alone, try the Lifeguard app, available free on app stores.
Start low, go slow, and don’t mix substances.
Always carry naloxone and know how to use it.

Prince George Needle Exchange – 277 George St, open daily 8:15 a.m.–6:30 p.m.
Two Doors Down – 1126 3rd Ave, open Tuesday–Saturday with drug checking available from noon–4 p.m.
