The Kitimat RCMP released their weekly report covering October 1st to 8th, highlighting a range of calls from public safety concerns to fraud investigations.
On October 2nd, officers responded to a report of two youths seen with what appeared to be a firearm in the Kildala neighbourhood. Police located the pair and determined the item was a toy silver revolver with a safety orange tip. The youths were cooperative and understood the seriousness of the situation.
A day later, on October 3rd, two vehicles collided with a moose on Highway 37 north of Kitimat. The southbound vehicle struck the moose first, and a northbound vehicle hit the animal as it fell. No injuries were reported, but the moose was killed and both vehicles were extensively damaged.
Another call involved a confused, intoxicated man trying to unlock the wrong house in the Whitesail area around 2 a.m. He was safely returned home by police.
On October 5th, a traffic stop in City Centre led to an impaired driving charge. The driver failed a breath test and received a 90-day driving ban and a 30-day vehicle impound.
Finally, a senior fell victim to a celebrity imposter scam, losing several thousand dollars. The RCMP urge residents to check in with vulnerable family members and report fraud to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
As fall brings darker roads and reduced visibility, police also remind pedestrians and drivers to take extra safety precautions.
