Lax Kw’alaams is marking two major milestones in housing development this week, with events planned in both Lax Kw’alaams and Prince Rupert.
On Thursday, October 16th at 2:00 p.m., the community will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a completed 20-unit residential development in Lax Kw’alaams. One of the buildings will be open for Council members and the community to tour.
Following the walk-through, guests will gather at 3:00 p.m. in the school gymnasium next to the Recreation Centre for a brief program of speeches and light refreshments.
The following day, on Friday, October 17th at 1:00 p.m., the focus shifts to Prince Rupert for the groundbreaking of a 38-unit housing development at 836 3rd Avenue West.
The event will feature remarks from representatives of Lax Kw’alaams, Lax Kw’alaams Council, BC Housing, and the City of Prince Rupert. In case of rain, speeches and refreshments will be held indoors at the nearby Lax Kw’alaams Community Hall.
Both projects reflect a shared commitment to improving housing access and community infrastructure for Lax Kw’alaams members and the broader region.
The Prince Rupert event is expected to conclude around 3:00 p.m..
For more information, community members are encouraged to contact Lax Kw’alaams Band Office or BC Housing.
