The Fort St John RCMP and Women’s Resource Society are launching the Purple Light Nights Campaign on October 1 at Centennial Park, inviting the community to take a stand against intimate partner violence.
The campaign aims to raise awareness, support survivors, and honour those lost to domestic violence. According to organizers, 80% of intimate partner violence incidents go unreported, often occurring dozens of times before any help is sought.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a free community barbecue and an opportunity to connect with local support services. A formal program will follow at 6 p.m., highlighting the importance of community awareness and support.
Residents are encouraged to wear purple and light up their homes, schools, and businesses with purple throughout October. These visual displays send a powerful message of solidarity, awareness, and hope to those affected.
Organizers say the long-term impact of intimate partner violence extends beyond individuals—affecting families, children, and the broader community.
