A newly upgraded emergency department is now open at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital, bringing improved emergency care to residents across the north coast.
The expanded facility features a larger triage and trauma area, modern high acuity unit rooms, and a redesigned registration area and lobby. These improvements are aimed at increasing patient privacy, enhancing infection control, and improving overall flow through the department.
Serving more than 30,000 residents—including remote and First Nations communities—the hospital is a critical care hub for the region. It offers 24/7 emergency services, in-patient treatment, surgery, diagnostics, and more.
The $16.5 million investment was jointly funded by the Province of British Columbia and the Northwest Regional Hospital District. The project also focused on recruitment and retention of health-care professionals by creating a more modern and supportive work environment.
Located on the territory of the Tsimshian First Nation, the project was developed in partnership with local Indigenous communities to ensure the space is culturally safe and welcoming for all.
The upgrades are part of a broader provincial effort to expand health-care infrastructure and improve access to high-quality care in communities across British Columbia.
