At the “Get It Done” conference in Campbell River, mayors from across British Columbia gathered to call for increased support for resource development. The event brought together leaders from rural and urban communities to discuss the urgent need for quicker project approvals, better coordination between governments, and stronger First Nations participation in resource industries.
Mayor Kermit Dahl of Campbell River, who hosted the event, emphasized the uncertainty many communities face without a solid commitment to responsible resource development. The mayors issued five key calls-to-action, focusing on timely project approvals and creating more opportunities for First Nations economic participation.
Mayors Brad West of Port Coquitlam and Herb Pond of Prince Rupert also spoke to the benefits of resource industries for communities across the province, stressing that resource development isn’t just a rural issue. As markets shift and trade opportunities grow, the mayors are urging all levels of government to act swiftly to protect and expand BC’s resource sectors.
Moving forward, the Alliance of Resource Communities will continue to advocate for stronger, coordinated support for BC’s vital industries.
