Mayor Garry Reece of Lax Kw’alaams has been reinstated following a Band Council Resolution issued on August 22nd, reversing his removal from office. The council determined that the process leading to his ousting was invalid and did not follow the necessary procedures outlined in the Lax Kw’alaams Election Regulations.
The resolution, which was passed by the majority of council members, confirmed that the removal was flawed and that Reece’s position as Mayor was never rightfully compromised. The Mayor, who was removed on August 18th, issued a public statement denying any wrongdoing. He firmly rejected accusations of theft and improper behavior, asserting that he had acted with integrity throughout his tenure.
Reece also addressed concerns about internal division within the council, claiming that some individuals were trying to stir chaos, which would ultimately hurt the community. He reaffirmed his commitment to serve the people of Lax Kw’alaams until the end of his term.
With the Band Council Resolution revoking the earlier decision, Mayor Reece will remain in office and continue to fulfill his responsibilities as the elected leader of the community.
