Terrace RCMP are reporting continued success with the C-STEP funding initiative, which supports additional police patrols aimed at reducing crime through proactive enforcement.
On August 22, officers on C-STEP duty arrested a man near Walmart and Highway 16 who was wanted in a prior drug trafficking case. A search led to the seizure of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, unstamped cigarettes, cash believed to be proceeds of crime, and several knives deemed dangerous. The drugs and weapons were seized for destruction, and the cash will be referred to the Civil Forfeiture Office.
Now two months into the program, officers have made 76 arrests during extra patrol shifts, many involving repeat violent and non-violent offenders. A variety of weapons have been seized, including bear spray, throwing knives, daggers, and homemade shields. Drugs, break-in tools, and contraband tobacco were also confiscated.
Seventeen new charges have been approved so far, and additional investigations are ongoing.
Alongside enforcement, officers have connected several individuals with local health, housing, and treatment services. Terrace RCMP say these efforts help reduce repeat offences and support long-term community safety.
C-STEP patrols are expected to continue through mid-October.
