There was a fatal incident at the Prince Rupert Summer Carnival last night, Tuesday, August 26th.
North District RCMP confirmed that at 10:40pm a man was found unconscious near one of the rides, and despite emergency lifesaving efforts by EHS, he had passed away from his injuries.
The Prince Rupert RCMP is now investigating alongside WorkSafe BC and the BC Coroners Service.
The identity of the deceased has not been released, nor any official details on what happened. Witnesses at the scene reported that a carnival employee had be struck by the ‘zipper’ ride when it was turned on.
Shooting Star Amusements has confirmed it will be closed today, and the company has offered a full refund for those with online purchases that haven’t been used.
Meanwhile, the City of Prince Rupert says it will be hosting Victim Services counsellors and support staff in the Civic Centre auditorium today from 1:00pm to 4:00pm for those in need of support. The City has also offered there condolences to all those affected.
