Today, Tuesday, August 26, the community is gathering at George Little Park in Terrace to mark International Overdose Awareness Month with an evening of remembrance, connection, and action.
Running from 4 to 8 PM, the event invites people from across the region to join in honouring lives lost to overdose and supporting those affected by the ongoing toxic drug crisis.
This year’s theme, “One Big Family,” encourages moving beyond awareness into compassion, healing, and hope.
Activities will include guest speakers, personal stories, naloxone training, community resource tables, and free food and refreshments. Attendees can also take part in swag giveaways, a candlelight vigil, and a walk to honour loved ones.
Organizers say the event is a safe, family-friendly space to share stories, find support, and take meaningful steps toward change.
The event is hosted by TDCSS, the Kermode Friendship Society, Foundry Terrace, Northern Health, and the Nisga’a Valley Health Authority, with support from local businesses and organizations.
Everyone is welcome. Together, the community is taking a stand to stop the stigma and show that every life—and every voice—matters.
