Hot weather expected until mid-week
Environment Canada says a heat warning remains in effect for Terrace, Kitimat, and inland regions of the North Coast as hot weather continues into the new week.
Daytime highs of about 28 degrees Celsius, combined with overnight lows near 13, are expected through Wednesday. A gradual cooling trend is forecast for the latter part of the week.
Health and safety concerns
While heat affects everyone, health officials warn that seniors, people living alone, and those with pre-existing conditions face greater risks. People with limited mobility, mental health challenges, or substance use concerns are also more vulnerable.
Watch for signs of heat illness
Symptoms can include heavy sweating, heat rash, cramps, fainting, and high body temperature. Heat can also make existing health conditions worse.
How to protect yourself
Drink water regularly, even before you feel thirsty.
Spend time in shaded or air-conditioned spaces.
Limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.
Check on friends, family, and neighbours—especially anyone who may live alone.
