The Terrace Little Theatre is reaching out to the City of Terrace for support in replacing the aging roof of the McColl Playhouse. Originally a converted Baptist church, the building has served as TLT’s home since the late 1980s and plays a key role in the community’s arts and culture scene.
The roof, already decades old, sustained damage during a 2022 windstorm and now requires a full replacement. The total project cost is estimated at $100,000. TLT has already raised over $15,000 through community events and is applying for $50,000 from the Northern Development Initiative Trust and $37,500 from the Northern Savings Imagine Grant.
To help strengthen these applications, the theatre is requesting a formal letter of support from City Council. In addition to year-round productions, TLT runs youth drama camps, improv nights, workshops, and regional theatre festivals.
The “Raising the Roof” campaign is part of the theatre’s long-term goal to preserve the McColl Playhouse as a welcoming creative space for all ages. Representatives from TLT will present their request at the August 25th City Council meeting.
The Terrace Little Theatre operates on the traditional territory of the Tsimshian people and has been an active part of the community since 1953.
