The Terrace RCMP have confirmed that on Tuesday, August 12th, they had received multiple reports that a white man from New Mexico had allegedly been attempting to solicit sexual acts from women in the Terrace area in exchange for money.
RCMP say they had investigated these reports. The man, who had not been named publicly by police, was identified, then located in a trailer park in town.
In their weekly media review, the Terrace RCMP wrote ‘It was made clear to the out-of-town visitor that his behaviour was not appropriate and would not be tolerated in this town.’ At which point, the man told RCMP he would be leaving town.
While no charges had been laid, Terrace RCMP say they had warned ‘neighboring detachments’ of the incident.
Local social media pages in Northwestern BC had been abuzz in recent days, with some claiming a man with New Mexico plates had been spotted engaging in the same behaviour in other communities. Others who claim to have been approached by the man allege he indicated to them he was targeting indigenous women.
The Terrace RCMP did not respond to a request for comment about the incident this week, and did not specify which detachments they had informed, or when they had done so.
