A serious collision north of Fort St John has left one person dead.
On Monday, August 11, around 1:42 p.m., Fort St John RCMP responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 97 North and 269 Road.
Investigators say a southbound SUV ran a red light and collided with a tanker truck that was turning left onto the highway from 269 Road.
Emergency services from Fort St John, Charlie Lake, and BC Ambulance attended the scene. Sadly, the driver of the SUV was declared dead on site.
Police have notified the family of the deceased.
The highway was closed for several hours as RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services conducted a detailed investigation.
Traffic in the area was heavily affected, but the road has since reopened.
RCMP are still working to determine all factors that may have led to the crash.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage from the area around that time is asked to contact the Fort St John RCMP.
The investigation remains ongoing.
