Kitimat General Hospital is set to enhance local healthcare with the installation of a new CT scanner, thanks to a $4.7 million capital investment. Construction began earlier this week, marking a major milestone for the Kitimat community. The project is a collaboration between the Kitimat Hospital Foundation, the Northwest Regional Hospital District, and several local organizations and donors.
The new CT scanner will significantly improve diagnostic services, providing faster and more accurate results for conditions such as trauma, stroke, and cancer. The upgrade will reduce the need for residents to travel to other locations for CT scans and will help with the recruitment of medical professionals, ensuring that Kitimat can retain and attract top-tier healthcare talent.
In addition to the scanner, the project includes renovations to the hospital’s imaging department. Full services are expected to begin in Spring 2026. The addition of this diagnostic tool will also support physician recruitment, create opportunities for student training, and improve ambulance coverage for urgent CT scans in the area.
This project underscores the importance of community collaboration in strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving access to vital services for residents of Kitimat and surrounding areas.
