The Sik-E-Dakh Health Centre is organizing its first-ever Overdose Awareness Walk and Run on Thursday, August 28, 2025, to raise awareness about the growing drug overdose crisis impacting communities across the Northwest.
The event begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Gitanmaax Skate Park, where participants will gather before walking or running to the Sik-E-Dakh Hall. A luncheon and community presentations will follow, creating space for reflection, connection, and conversation.
The earlier start time was chosen to allow for an RCMP escort, ensuring participants’ safety along the route.
This walk and run is open to everyone and aims to bring people together in support, solidarity, and remembrance of those lost or affected by the overdose epidemic.
Organizers hope this will become an annual event, strengthening community bonds and drawing attention to the urgent need for awareness and action around substance use issues.
Those interested in participating or looking for more information can contact Arlene Sampson at the Sik-E-Dakh Health Centre at 250-842-6876 (Monday to Thursday) or email arlene@sikedakh.org.
Another contact for the event is Carolina Galdamez at carolina@sikedakh.org.
