The Business Council of British Columbia (BCBC) has released an update summarizing feedback from its Stay With B.C. campaign, which engaged over 3,000 British Columbians from 100 communities. The campaign, launched in December 2024, aimed to understand why many residents are considering leaving the province amid rising economic pressures.
The report, Stay With BC: Voices and Solutions for a Brighter Future, reveals that concerns over housing affordability, taxes and regulation, job creation and wages, and public services like healthcare and transportation are driving frustration across the province. Many respondents, including young professionals and business owners, say the high cost of living and stagnant wages make it difficult to build a future in B.C.
BCBC President Laura Jones emphasized the need for practical steps to strengthen the economy, such as restoring fiscal stability, improving tax competitiveness, growing resource industries, and adopting a more business-friendly approach. The campaign reflects a shared desire to keep people in B.C. but warns that without these changes, the province risks losing its next generation.
